How Kocteau handles account, review, taste, and technical data.

Last reviewed May 23, 2026

What Kocteau collects

Kocteau collects the information needed to run a music review product:

  • Account information, such as the email address used for authentication.
  • Profile information, such as display name, username, avatar, bio, and music links.
  • Review activity, such as ratings, written reviews, comments, likes, saves, follows, and notifications.
  • Taste signals, such as onboarding choices, profile preferences, familiar tracks, and interaction history.
  • Technical data, such as device, browser, app performance, error reports, and security events.
  • Product analytics signals, such as feed loads, recommendation actions, starter pick actions, review opens, and similar events that help Kocteau understand whether discovery is working.

How Kocteau uses information

Kocteau uses information to authenticate users, publish reviews, show profiles, personalize the For You feed, recommend music and writers, protect the platform, debug issues, measure product health, and communicate important account or product updates.

Kocteau does not need sensitive personal data to make music discovery feel personal. The product should learn from reviews, ratings, follows, saves, and taste signals rather than from invasive tracking.

Recommendation and analytics signals

Kocteau may record product events to understand how the review and discovery loop is working. Examples include whether a feed loaded, whether a review was opened, whether a starter pick was skipped, or whether a recommendation path fell back to a safer default.

First-party analytics events should stay limited to product context such as event type, surface, review or track identifiers, recommendation reason, position, and small counters. Kocteau should not store email addresses, IP addresses, user agents, or raw review text inside first-party analytics event metadata.

Aggregate analytics may be used to improve For You, starter picks, Explore, recommendation health checks, and future editorial candidate review. These signals should support human curation and product quality rather than advertising profiles.

Public content

Reviews, ratings, usernames, display names, avatars, bios, follows, saves, badges, and profile links may appear publicly when the relevant feature is public.

Do not put private information in a review, comment, bio, username, or public profile field.

Service providers

Kocteau uses service providers to operate the app. These may include Supabase for authentication and database services, Vercel for hosting and analytics, Sentry for error monitoring, email delivery tools for account messages, and music metadata providers such as Deezer.

These providers process information as needed to provide their services to Kocteau.

Choices and rights

You can edit parts of your profile inside Kocteau. You can also change or delete reviews and other content where the product exposes those controls.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, objection, or restriction of certain personal information.

Retention and security

Kocteau keeps information for as long as it is needed to operate the product, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and improve the review and discovery experience.

No system is perfectly secure, but Kocteau should keep access narrow, avoid unnecessary data collection, and treat account and review data with care.
